What the Calculator Prices
- Carpet installation: carpet, fresh underpad and labour, priced by grade. Budget runs $3 to $6 per sq ft, mid-range $4 to $10, and premium wool and designer lines $6 to $12.50.
- Stairs: $25 to $60 per step, for a full wrap or a runner.
- Re-stretching: $1 to $2 per sq ft for rippled or loose carpet.
- Repairs: a flat price from $120 to $450, depending on whether it is a seam, a patch, or pet or water damage.
- Add-ons for installs: old carpet removal and disposal at about $0.70 to $1.60 per sq ft, furniture moving, a premium underpad, subfloor prep and new baseboards.
How to Measure Your Room
Multiply the length by the width of each room in feet, then add closets and hallways. A 12 x 12 bedroom is 144 sq ft. For stairs, count the steps, including the top step onto the landing. We confirm every measurement on site and plan the seams, so the square footage on your quote can be a little higher than the floor area.
Why Your Quote Can Differ
The calculator assumes a straightforward room. The written quote can move when a room has an unusual shape that adds seams, when stairs have winders or a landing, when the subfloor needs repair, or when a condo building sets access rules. Every one of those shows up as its own line, so you can see what changed.

How accurate is the carpet calculator?
It uses our standard per-square-foot and per-step rates, so it gives a realistic range for straightforward rooms. Seams, room shape, subfloor repairs and stair layout can move the final number, which is why the written quote comes after a free in-home measure.
Does the estimate include underpad?
Yes. Installation prices include fresh underpad and tack strip. A premium underpad upgrade is an optional add-on.
Is old carpet removal included?
No, it is its own line. Tick the removal add-on to include it in the estimate.
Can I use the calculator for carpet I bought myself?
The calculator prices supply and installation. For install-only, with carpet you bought, we charge $0.49 to $2 per sq ft with a $280 minimum.
